President & CEO, Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau
A 25-year veteran of destination marketing, Shelly Green is President & CEO of the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau, an internationally-accredited destination marketing organization chartered by state and local governments to attract and serve visitors to Durham.
She served in executive capacities in the visitor bureaus of Asheville and Chapel Hill, prior to moving to Durham in 2000.
Shelly serves as Immediate Past Chairman of the independent, Washington D.C.-based Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) Board, the group that evaluates standards and determines accreditation for destination marketing organizations in North American and worldwide.
Shelly has served as a speaker or panelist at national meetings of Destination Marketing Association International, the Travel Industry Association’s ESTO, Southeast Tourism Society and America’s Promise Alliance as well as at meetings such as the NC Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism.
Green was honored by her peers with the Barrentine Award in 2002, given annually to one individual in the state who demonstrates significant service to the North Carolina Association of Convention & Visitor Bureau. She was also awarded the Bill Sharpe Public Service Award by the NC Travel Industry Association in 2011 in recognition for outstanding contributions to the development and promotion of North Carolina.
A strong advocate of public service, Shelly serves on the Board of the Durham Rotary Club. She is the Secretary and founding member of Scenic North Carolina as well as being a regular volunteer at Y.E. Smith Elementary School.
