The Night Before 12 Meetings
Watch the Recording
This past year, the Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) Old Dominion Chapter has provided its member DMOs to present and educate meeting professionals about what they do. This month, Janet Wenger and her colleagues at the Chesapeake Convention and Visitors Bureau took this opportunity to create a truly memorable performance.
Twas the night before the 12 meetings and all through the night,
The planners were worrying – something just wasn’t quite right.
They’d booked their meeting straight with the hotel; the CVB wasn’t aware
Of all these meetings in Chesapeake, Oh how they dare!
Now the attendees were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of awesome Chesapeake danced in their heads.
All excited about Chesapeake, the greatest place on the map,
They couldn’t fall asleep, not even for a short nap.
When all of a sudden, in the planners heads rose all this chatter,
They realized what they’d done, they knew just what was the matter!
They ran to their hotel window, they each flew like a flash,
And opened the curtains - STOP - No need for a mad dash!
They each looked to the left, to the right and then down below,
But suddenly thought, "I’ll call the CVB, their one stop shop you know!"
For they realized without the CVB, their registration bags would be quite empty, almost sheer,
Without visitor guides, coupon books, maps or listing of restaurants so near.
So they each picked up the phone, so frantic and quick,
For they remembered the Chesapeake CVB was awesome – they’d respond lickity split.
More rapid than eagles, the CVB responded and came,
And whistled, and shouted, and called each planner by name:
"Now Danielle, Now Marilee, Now Kay Springfield – you vixen,
Come Mary, Come Jennifer, and you and you... now please listen.
We’ll take care of you this time – your back’s against the wall,
But next time call the CVB first, they’ve got immediate access to all!"
So the CVB took action, not a second went by,
'Cause they take care of their groups from morning 'til night.
So off they went, to each and every venue they flew,
And took all kinds of promotional items, maps and coupon books, too!
And then, in a twinkling, the CVB was gone - kapoof,
And right back at their office still working, never aloof,
Like worker bee elves, out went press releases to media all around
Letting everyone they knew about all these great meetings in town.
The CVB seemed like Santa, from their head to their foot,
But their clothes weren’t even tarnished with ashes or soot.
Chesapeake loves your meetings, they will never be slack.
That’s why once you’re In Chesapeake, you’ll always come back.
Now all of the planners eyes twinkled, and there dimples were merry.
They were ready for the next day thanks to the CVB and hotel elf fairies.
So everything was just perfect and ready to go,
'Cause the CVB helped out, now the planners look like pros.
So the moral of this story, call the Chesapeake CVB first
When it comes to their fine city, they are very well versed!
They promote the Conference Center, with awesome food for your belly,
And over 40 great hotels – why go anywhere else, really?
So thanks to all my partners, their like jolly ol' elves.
As I laugh when I look at 'em, in spite of myself.
With a wink of their eyes and a twist of their head,
When they host your meetings, you have nothing to dread.
When it comes evaluation time - they all get perfect scores - all tens!
That’s why they keep coming back again and again.
So with a quick of a flash – and their fingers aside their nose,
They rise up to the every occasion as this story comes to a close.
Now we’re off to our sleigh, to my team I give a whistle
And away we’ll all fly like the down of a thistle
But before we leave and we’re gone out of sight,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
