COO, Greater Phoenix CVB
DMAI Member Since:
Michael Mooney has been with the Greater Phoenix CVB since 1997. Currently in the role of COO, Mike started there as Director of Information Technology where he was the architect and implementer of the transformation of GPCVB from a technological laggard to one recognized for many years as leading edge. Blessed (or cursed) with a substantial financial background to complement his technological acumen, Mike’s ability to merge these disciplines allowed him to rise through the GPCVB’s ranks in several progressively responsible roles prior to his current position.
Prior to joining the GPCVB, Mike was senior financial/technology officer for a private enterprise operating in several tourism-related spaces including aviation, hotel, restaurant, ground transportation and golf in Arizona, Washington State, Hawaii, California and Nevada. It was here he that he was able to hone his skills to utilize automation and develop many applications to streamline operations and increase profits while also being exposed to many different sectors of the travel and tourism industry and their unique needs. Immediately preceding that career path was a stint in the casino software development industry, where he specialized in the timekeeping, slot accounting and guest VIP tracking areas.
Fortunate to have remained in Arizona throughout most of his career, Mike considers Arizona to be “home” and resides there with his wife of 23 years and their daughter and son. When not tied to the desk or banished to doing yard work or washing the car, he can occasionally be spotted on one of the Phoenix area’s excellent golf courses, or at least the land alongside the holes in search of his missing golf ball.
