Chief Marketing Officer
Melissa Cherry is the Chief Marketing Officer at Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), the global trade association for official destination marketing organizations (DMOs). She is responsible for the development and execution of the overall marketing and communications strategy to promote the organization’s mission, elevate the brand, drive awareness, and strengthen its impact to protect and advance the success of destination marketing worldwide.
Prior to joining DMAI, Cherry was Senior Vice President for Marketing & Cultural Tourism at Choose Chicago, the official sales and marketing organization responsible for promoting Chicago as a destination to business and leisure travelers. During her four-year tenure, she led Choose Chicago’s domestic and international marketing strategies, including all efforts for brand strategy, integrated marketing, research, advertising, official publications and collateral, website, social media and event marketing. Additionally, she launched the first-ever Cultural Tourism Strategy to increase visitation and awareness to Chicago’s cultural entities, events, and neighborhoods.
Cherry received her M.A. in Public Art Studies from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1998), and a B.A. in Art History from Howard University (1996).
