100 Years of Advancing Destinations

Meeting Planning Expertise from DMOs Now On Demand in the Palm of Your Hand

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Washington, DC – Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) and its empowerMINT team are diving further into digital with a new educational podcast channel especially for meeting planners: “Meeting Planning Madness.” Designed to help planners stop some of the madness that comes with their job, the channel serves up unique solutions and expertise of destination marketing organizations (DMOs).

Podcasting as a medium is back on the rise. Last year, Apple iTunes reached a huge milestone of 1 billion podcast subscribers. According to the Pew Research Center, over a quarter of internet users download and listen to podcasts, and skew towards a young and educated generation. This mobile channel will allow the DMO industry to distribute valuable information on demand and on the go, helping meeting planners in a direct and personal way.

“DMAI and DMOs understand that meeting planners are time-starved, and not everyone can carve out time during the day to sit on a webinar or read a white paper,” said Michael Gehrisch, President & CEO of DMAI. “Through this podcast, meeting planners can download the topics that interest them and review the information at their convenience. It's our industry's way of delivering our expertise whenever and wherever our customers require it.”

Designed to be informal, personal and engaging, “Meeting Planning Madness” will feature interviews with top meeting planners, DMO sales pros and leading industry experts – all sharing valuable, personal testimonials and unique expertise. The podcast is an informational myth buster, full of vetted planning advice for planners who want to be in the know. Episodes feature and address planner pain points by delivering practical meeting solutions.

“Having the sole responsibility of planning a meeting, large or small can be monumental for a meeting planner. Oftentimes, a planners' internal stakeholders have lots of expectations as well, and the planner is expected to know everything, said Christine “Shimo” Shimasaki, CDME, CMP, Managing Director of empowerMINT.com and Event Impact Calculator with DMAI. “So what's the answer? That's exactly what we address in the podcast.”

Find “Meeting Planning Madness” in the iTunes store and at http://blog.empowermint.com/podcast now. Listen in, subscribe and put an end to some of the madness in your meeting planning world.
