100 Years of Advancing Destinations

Live Webcast to Pilot at DMAI Annual Convention

Destination Marketing Association International’s empowerMINT program will pilot a live webcast for meeting planners at its Annual Convention.

WASHINGTON, DC – Meeting planners will be able to participate live in a webcast broadcasted by Destination Marketing Association International’s (DMAI) empowerMINT initiative at DMAI’s Annual Convention on July 16-17, 2015 in Austin, Texas.

“Today’s planners expect nothing less than the most timely and relevant information from destinations,” said Christine “Shimo” Shimasaki, DMAI’s Managing Director of empowerMINT and Event Impact Calculator. “So we’re looking to leverage available technology and an established gathering of destinations to provide a learning experience  meeting planners can access from the convenience of their own desks.”

The empowerMINT initiative positions destination sales professionals as the best first point of contact to help meeting planners in finding the right fit for any size meeting. Thirteen Texas destinations that currently subscribe to empowerMINT are invited to participate in the pilot broadcast.

The destinations will be divided over two days into a pre-published schedule. Sales professionals will share the latest meeting insights on their respective destinations; field questions from planners in real time through Twitter; and give away a promotional item or service to participating planners at the end of each segment. Meeting planners are welcome to join the broadcast at any time based on their interest and availability.

Presentations will focus almost exclusively on new developments within each destination, such as hotel development and renovations, innovative event ideas unique to the location, and local news that impact meetings like new airline service, downtown development, and attractions.

“Based on a survey empowerMINT conducted with Cvent in 2014, we know that meeting planners stand to benefit from the local expertise and experiences of destination sales professionals,” said Shimasaki. “The opportunity is for us to create new ways to make that personal expertise accessible beyond the traditional face to face interaction.”
