David Whitaker was appointed President & CEO of Tourism Toronto in 2007. He assumed the helm of Toronto’s Destination Marketing Organization with a current budget in excess of $37 Million, a full-time staff of just under 80 professionals and the support and cooperation of over 1,200 association members representing hotels, attractions, arts and cultural facilities, restaurants, retail, entertainment venues and business services throughout the Greater Toronto area including Mississauga and Brampton. Tourism Toronto’s organizational structure includes major business units focusing on Consumer Marketing, Meetings and Convention Sales, International Trade Sales, Communications, Public Relations and Destination Development Initiatives.
In a 2010 poll, conducted by Watkins Research, of over 600 meeting planners in North America – Tourism Toronto was honored to be ranked the number one Destination Marketing Organization/Convention & Visitor Bureau in North America.
Prior to joining Tourism Toronto, David spent 17 years with the Greater Miami CVB serving most recently as the Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Previously he worked for 6 years in a number of capacities with the United Way of Miami-Dade including Vice President of Marketing.
He is a graduate of the University of South Florida, earning a degree in Mass Communications/Public Relations.
