If You Build It: A Lesson in Destination Development by The Atlantic City CVB

If you build it, they will most certainly come, and that is what the fine folks in Atlantic City, NJ have been up to as they encourage visitors to "DO AC!"

There are many enticing ways to "DO AC" as Atlantic City features several new and exciting projects that have recently debuted, while many more are currently under construction throughout the destination resort. This investment compliments Atlantic City's 11 casino hotel gaming properties, which offer world-class entertainment, dining and shopping.

The return of the Miss America Pageant to Historic Boardwalk Hall last year, along with the "Show Us Your Shoes Parade", thrust Atlantic City into the primetime spotlight of network television and showed the rest of the world all that it has to offer.

Several popular restaurants opened last year, including Jimmy Buffet's 400-seat Margaritaville Cafe, Land Shark Bar & Grill and Five O'Clock Somewhere Bar at Resorts; and Chickie's & Pete's Crab House and Sports Bar, Tony Luke's, Perry's Pizza, Casa Taco & Tequila Bar, Marketplace Express and Broadway Burger Bar at Tropicana.

Bass Pro Shops' $18 million, 86,000-square-foot outdoorsman super store will encompass four city blocks in the heart of downtown and will feature an elaborate aquarium with native species, boat showroom, an Uncle Buck's Fishbowl and Grill complete with fish-themed bowling lanes and a 170-space parking lot. A spring 2015 grand opening is anticipated.

Steel Pier's three-phase, $102-million renovation project has added 15 new, state-ofthe- art rides over the past two years and a 200-foot observation wheel, complete with 42, fully-enclosed gondolas featuring air conditioning and heat for year-round use, will be built on a new, 315,000-square-foot pier.

The arts are alive in Atlantic City with the newly-opened, 16,000-square-foot Noyes
Museum of Art at The Richard Stockton College Wave Arts Garage retail shops, the "ARTlantic" interactive Boardwalk art displays designed by international curator Lance Fung, the 1.1-mile Waterfront Sculpture Walk along the bay that features spectacular views of the surrounding wildlife and scenery, and the "Heartwalk" sculpture on the Boardwalk at New York Avenue.

The greater Atlantic City region is also the place to be for golf. With 20 championship caliber courses within a short, 30-minute commute, our courses offer the tranquil beauty of wetlands, stunning bay views, challenging topography with deep ravines, rolling fairways, stretches of sand bunkers, tall pine trees and majestic vineyards.

Getting to Atlantic City is convenient than ever as United Airlines recently announced it will inaugurate service at Atlantic City International Airport, offering customers daily nonstop flights to United's hubs at Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport beginning April 1, 2014.
