As a 30 Under 30 Alumni, I myself can attest to what an honor it is so be chosen to represent the future of the Destination Marketing Industry at DMAI's Annual Convention, having been chosen for the inaugural 2011 group in New Orleans. Having said that, it's exciting to announce this year's 2013 30 Under 30 Ambassadors in the form of Megan Casey and Krisilee Murphy, two of last year's 30 Under 30 program participants.
You are probably wondering what does it mean to be an ambassadors for this year's convention, so here is a sneak peak! Ambassadors will have the opportunity to:
- attend DMAI Leadership events including the DMAI Board of Directors meeting
- mentor newly selected 30 Under 30 program participants at the convention
- participate within DMAI committees throughout the year and
- advocate for the 30 under 30 program at industry events
This years recipients combined have a total of 9 years industy experience between the two of them, so lets get to know Megan Casey and Krisilee Murphy:
Name: Megan Casey
DMO: Visit Orlando
Job Title: Senior Event Planner
Hometown: Naples, FL
Department: Partner Relations & Development
# of year with DMO: 6 years
Take Away from Last Year’s Convention: Loved Jason Dorsey as the general session speaker and after attending the “Movie Marketing” session, I used a lot of the feedback in planning some of our consumer marketing events partnering with existing events rather than reinventing the wheel.
As a 30 Under 30 Ambassador: I hope to work with DMAI To implement a 30 Under 30 network where past and present recipients can network and share best practices with each other. I also would like to motivate the 30 Under 30 participants to spread the word about DMAI and what types of windows of opportunity the tourism community can open for you people.
Name: Krisilee Murphy
DMO: Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau
Job title: Director of Marketing
Hometown: Yorkville, IL
# of year with DMO: 3 ½ years
Take Away From Last Year’s Convention: By the time my plane landed back in Chicago I had a marketing plan all set on how I could take this idea of engaging your locals to create a stronger tourism voice. What I came up with was our Resident Recommended program, program that takes ten very active social media individuals that live locally and pushes their collective voice out to tourists who are looking to visit the Elgin Area.
As a 30 Under 30 Ambassador: I would like to secure more participation from the 30 Under 30 participants at events, for example Membership Shirtsleeves, throughout the year. I would like to create a scholarship or discounted registration fees to provide additional incentive to be able to outline for my CEO and Board the benefits of me attending.
Congrats to both Megan and Krisilee, as they will both no doubt serve their peers well in this role for the next year! Want the chance to meet both of these future DMO rockstars? Then be sure to register for this year's DMAI Annual Convention in Orlando Florida!
