From Anchorage to Zimbabwe, More Than 170 U.S. and International Destinations Set to Court Planners in D.C.
Washington, D.C. (Feb. 12, 2013) – In just four weeks, nearly 1,000 meeting, convention, and trade show professionals will converge in Washington, DC, for Destination Marketing Association International’s annual Destinations Showcase Conference & Expo. The one-day event is North America’s largest to exclusively connect meeting planners with exhibiting destination marketing organizations (DMOs and CVBs) from across the U.S. and beyond. It takes place on Thursday, March 14, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center; while a sister Destinations Showcase Chicago event takes place on Wednesday, May 8, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill.
Exhibitors confirmed to date for Destinations Showcase Washington, DC, include 161 domestic destinations, spanning the continental U.S., from Visit Seattle to Greater Miami CVB; along with Visit Anchorage, Hawaii CVB, and Puerto Rico Convention Bureau. Plus, 12 international destinations, including Dominican Republic Tourism Board, Dubai Convention & Events Bureau, Korea Tourism Organization, Los Cabos Tourism Board and Mexico Tourism Board, Visit Panama, and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority; as well as Ottawa Tourism, Tourism Toronto, Tourisme Montréal, and Vancouver CVB from Canada.
Free Admission and Hosted Buyer Opportunities Available
Admission to either event is free for qualified meeting professionals who pre-register online at DestinationsShowcase.com. Both events also feature a breakfast for Certified Meeting Professionals (CMPs), morning breakout sessions, a keynote luncheon, and the opportunity to earn up to 3.5 CMP credits. Limited openings remain for out-of-town planners wishing to apply for the fifth annual Hosted Buyer Program at either Destinations Showcase in Washington, DC, or Chicago. Selected participants receive complimentary admission, hotel accommodations, up to $300 toward travel expenses, special face-to-face appointments with sponsoring DMOs, and invitation-only VIP networking opportunities.

In addition, the Washington event includes the PMSI Promotional Products Fair, offering a wide-selection of board, speaker, and membership gift ideas from Professional Marketing Services Inc. (PMSI) and several leading brands; along with Hospitality Industry Professionals (HIP) Network’s official Destinations Showcase After-Party, immediately following the closing of the expo hall, at nearby Lux Lounge.
The International Association of Exhibitions & Events (IAEE) will co-locate an exclusive CEM Learning Program at the respective convention centers the day before both Destinations Showcases. The course topic will be floor plan development in Washington, DC, and event marketing in Chicago. Registration for either program is $250 and includes complimentary admission to Destinations Showcase the following day.
The Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) designation was created in 1975 to provide a professional designation for individuals in the exhibition industry. The designation was formed to raise professional standards and is recognized throughout the industry as the premier mark of professional achievement.
