Alison Best, CDME
EVP of Member Engagement, DMAI
Alison Best is Executive Vice President of Member Engagement at DMAI. Alison previously spent 4 years as CEO of Visit Oakland where she led the city’s efforts in destination development and branding. Through building a strong team, engaging the community and successfully implementing a Tourism Improvement District, she created an appreciation for the impact that visitor spending and tourism attraction could have on that destination.
Alison has over 15 years’ experience in the industry holding senior leadership roles in Santa Monica for seven years and in Whistler, Canada prior to that. She started in the industry in 1997 with UNIGLOBE travel and Delta Hotels in Canada. She attended the Canadian Tourism College in Vancouver, BC with a diploma in Tourism and studied Sociology at the University of Victoria.
In addition to her experience in the travel and tourism industry, Best is also a Certified Destination Marketing Executive (CDME), considered to be the highest educational achievement in the Destination Marketing industry. Best has served on many local and national Boards and continues to be the staff liaison at DMAI for the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland and growing up in British Columbia, she now lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her husband and 9 year old daughter and is a proud soccer mom on the weekends.
